Knowledge Cafes

Knowledge Cafés encourage productive conversations to help people learn from each other. They can help people to solve problems, break down silos, drive innovation and build a community. The value of the Café is in the conversation itself and the learning that each individual takes away.

The theme for this Knowledge Cafe is “Making Connections”

* * * Please note that we are running one single Knowledge Cafe for anyone based in UKHSA and Local Authority Public Health Teams. If you would like KLS to run a similar session in your patch then please contact libraries@kls.ukhsa.gov.uk * * *

What is a Knowledge Café?

A Knowledge Café is a conversational event, designed to bring together a group of people on a topic which will be of mutual interest, and hopefully break down silos.

How does it work?

This will be explained on the day and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions.

  • We will give you a topic, on the theme of Making Connections, along with some prompt questions.
  • Everyone will be split into breakout rooms, and you will discuss the topic with the group.
  • We will reconvene the larger group, then split into breakout rooms with new people, to discuss the topic again.
  • We will reconvene again, then split into breakout rooms for a final rotation, again with a new combination of participants in each group.
  • At the end of the session, we will come together and share how we found the process.

What’s in it for me?

  • Meet colleagues and others working in UKHSA and Local Authority Public Health teams; a networking opportunity to connect with others and build relationships.
  • Share your own knowledge and learn from each other in a non-classroom environment where you get to hear diverse views and experiences.
  • Gain a better understanding of a topic.
  • Identify opportunities and potential roadblocks for working with others.

Try out an After Action Review

An After Action Review is a short, structured meeting held immediately after a short-term activity such as a task within a project, for example, a training session, a go-live day or an engagement meeting. Usually facilitated by one of the team members, all who were involved in the ‘action’ should participate in the After Action Review.

This session will give you the opportunity to try an After Action Review having conducted a short activity in groups, and (hopefully!) see the benefits for yourself.

Please note that this session is currently only open to UKHSA. If you would like KLS to run a similar session for you please contact libraries@kls.ukhsa.gov.uk for further information.

Date: Wednesday 14th December 2022
Time: 14.00 – 15.30
